I'm thinking of pursuing a career in martial arts.

I'm thinking of pursuing a career in martial arts.
Read the title please.

What do you think about that? I don't aim to be some kind of UFC champion or anything. I'm too old for that. But I am a natural-born powerlifter with years of training under my belt and I think I can be a decent "Judoka", which is the term for a Judo practitioner.

I'm currently in college for Exercise Science but I do wonder if I should stray from that path and pursue this martial arts instruction career... Hmm...

Although I'm often broke, I do have passive income. Enough to keep me fed. lol

What do you guys think? Honestly even if I put a halt on my formal schooling, I can go ahead and pursue my exercise science certification and actually get hired as a personal trainer. I don't know...

What do you folks think? Please keep in mind I'm not after the money. I'm after what will ultimately make me happy.

Thanks.

I’d tell you my opinion but since I’m a woman, I know the only thing that really matters is whether or not I’m sexually attractive.

Voice it anyway. What do you have to lose, a pinky finger? Wink

I don't know you so I don't see how I am qualified to make your life decisions, but logically speaking if someone wants to pay you money to teach them how to slap someone and you don't have anything else to do and are willing to do it, then I don't see the reason why not.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Martial arts instruction is a very fickle field, going up and down in response to movie and UFC trends. Income potential fluctuates wildly, but in general you want to be in an uncrowded market that has a strong demographic of teens and twenty-something males.

Not sure what the International Judo Federation requires for teacher certification - what dan level, whether you would have to teach under the authorization of a senior judoka, etc. See if you can run a class out of a community centre or school gymnasium a couple times a week, but bear in mind that you'll need lots of mats and a place to store them. Probably not worthwhile if you need to rent a storefront, as that'll chew up a huge amount of money every month.

(Many years ago I helped an ex-partner run a martial arts school. Lost more than we earned. -∞/10, wish I had a time machine to go back and drag myself away from the whole barmy scheme.)

I’m not sure why you care what we think.

Not entirely sure how much a powerlifting background will help with judo, other than the fact that you might just be used to strenuous exercise. But regardless, sure, go learn judo. I think considering it as a potential career before you even start is maybe a bit much, just start as a hobby and go from there.
