No one used the quoting rule against you - it was simply pointed out that we have a rule against what you did. You childishly responded out of spite by reporting other members who - contrary to what you think - did NOT break the rule, which was put in place to keep members’ quotes from being taken out of context.

It seems that your issue isn’t so much with being mildly advised about the rules as it is behaving like a grown up and following them.

Go look again at Eclectic's signature. It's rather wordy. You selected two words and two = signs. You completely changed the signature to something not even vaguely resembling the original. That IS NOT a quote.

Generally, yes, though reports on such are evaluated on a case by case basis. Also generally, staff doesn't go llooking for violations, we depend on the membership to report cases where they are being inappropriately misquoted.

The old rule way back in the wayback was... if it's a targeted snip addressing the content it's fine, if it's a targeted snip misrepresenting the original (either for a strawman or irrelevant point) it wasn't ok. The later was alleviated with the quote the wall and then hide hide tags, bolding what was relevant.
