The Republican Party is basically ruled by religious people at this point. At this point, the 10,000th right-wing religious movement won't really do any harm- it's not like it would make religious people have any power over the Republican Party than they already have.

But this HeGetsUs movement, which is trying to make the Democrats be a religious party too? That I find deeply disturbing.

The last thing I want is for Democrats to start having some Jimmy Carter or William Jennings Bryan type politicians again.

I can say with 100% confidence that the Democrats will not become a religious party lol. Not any more than they already are. So don't worry about it.

Dems are already 60-70% christian...and, though the group describes itself as apolitical and non partisan...they're a private group funded by wealthy donors affiliated with the us evangelical movement employing reich wing culture war messaging in their ad buys.

Their aim isn't to make dems (more) religious. They're trying to rehabilitate the christian brands image.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. Their "many denominations" are likely to be "many denominations" of born again evangelism, too.  The pool of motivated donors is narrow.

Why? Liberal theists sell Jesus too. I think it is stupid when either do it, but with liberals they are not authoritarian bullies.

You can't get elected in this country if your not beholden to the Jesus. Sam Harris said something like that. So your not going to have a Demarcate that isn't religious, at least to the cameras, in your life time. That is if your 20 years old right now. I'm 40 and fully expect to die with a full set of judges and a long list of presidents and congress that all were "religious". Atheism isn't exactly a hot brand.

As for the ad campaign. I think most liberals will see it like you do, a waist of money that could have been better spent actually helping people. Most democrats will see it the same with some thinking it's a triumph in advertising to bring over the religious right. Those are the idiots. Some on the right will see it as a fundraiser and Soros and Hilary perverting Jesus's name and all must die and burn!

Ultimately it's a harmless waist of money that employed some connected people per usual.
