It's not a personal defect to consider committing a crime. The defect lies in attempting it.

That's not what my gran taught me, lol.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I seem to recall that the Catholic church taught me that thinking it is as bad as doing it. A sin either way.

Ah, sin. I feel like I'm not the only atheist who doesn't think thoughtcrime is a crime.

Highlights the difference between feeling and knowing. I know thought crime isn't crime...and yet....

Wasn't sin, though - "wickedness". My granny probably has the heaviest and most radicalized christian origins story - but - oddly enough, she was the least likely to moralize from religion. All she needed was your aspiration to be a better version of yourself, and shame. So much shame. Totally different relationship as adults. I think we wore her out so I'm counting that as a w for our side.

I did steal once but only because my employer refused to pay what he owed me. Back then I used to work at something outlanders know as "internet cafe" whereas in my country it was known as "computer gaming club" - a place, usually a whole apartment changed to house at least 50 personal computers where people would come and pay per hour to play different computer games. And since my boss decided he could go without paying me my monthly salary, once during the graveyard shift I disassembled the most powerful computer in the place (back then there was no PCI, it was all AGP and IDE), took the CPU, the GPU (Radeon 9550 AGP) and the RAM plates, took the whole turnover from the shift and took off. I left the whole place unlocked and allowed all the customers to play the whole night for free.
I bet my employer regrets his decision not to pay me till present day. Hehe
