Serious question about thoughts on theists

Why don't you ask yourself that? Is every Muslim or Scientologists or Hare Krishna stupid?

I don't think that all religious people are stupid.

I guess I could divide religious types into three groups:

1. Misinformed

Some people have just been fed wrong info about the world and once they learn/ read that stories from their religious book did not and could not happen and that their reasoning is wrong they abandon religion.

2. People who have some materialistic gain from religion

They don't really care what's true or isn't true, they just follow the money. That can be anyone: a politician who claims that god chose him; a religious leader who collects money; some guy who has a harem because he convinced women that he is chosen by god; a theist lecturer who talks and writes about religion to make a lot of money, etc.

3. Dumb people

Some people are just that: stupid. To them, basic stuff is simply too complicated to understand and they resort to simple explanations (the world is flat, the world is 6000 years old and created by a wizard using magic, etc).
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I dislike all theists. They can't see the errors of their ways and accept FSM into their hearts. Now atheist on the other hand are funny and kind, mostly, folk who please FSM even if they have not yet been touched by xis noodles

I consider theists to be mostly deceiving themselves, but providing they don't try to push their beliefs on me I don't really care. Here in the UK religion isn't the big deal it seems to be in the USA, I worked every day with a guy for over 10 years and never realised he was a devout catholic, the subject just never came up.
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

Nope, and nope.

Quote: Do you find yourself blanket/generalizing all "theists" in the same vein?  All who believe a God exists is silly, moronic?  Or do you take each theist is their own person and assess your thoughts towards them on how they respond/treat you?  Maybe it's a mix?
A mix.  There are things all theists must share in belief or it wouldn't be appropriate to count them as part of the same group.  Then, on top of that, each local flavor of theistic belief has all of it's own unique idiocies.

Quote:I only ask because I see a lot of ad hominem attacks in responses when responding to theists on here.  Personally, I don't care if someone calls me silly, moronic, etc. I'm geniunely curious if that's how you view all theists in general, if so why?
It's only an ad hom if people say that because you're stupid, you're wrong.  If you notice alot of people calling you stupid, that's not an ad hom, just an additional observation.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

RE: Serious question about thoughts on theists
It's normal for people to believe what they're raised to believe, and what the people they admire and love believe. My parents raised me to believe a charismatic version of Chrisitanity with a literalist interpretation of the Bible. They raised me that way because they thought it was the right way to raise me so I wouldn't go to hell. I don't blame them for that.

Usually there's context in criticism of theists that implies 'not all theists'. Just as when someone complains about white people, if the criticism doesn't apply to me I can assume that it isn't really aimed at me, even though I'm a white person.

I think all theistic religions are flawed but I have no hard feelings towards Christians, Muslims, Hindus, etc. in general. I have a problem with Christianists, Islamists, and Hindu Nationalists though. I also find it irritating when someone comes at me to prosyletize, espcially if they're using particularly stupid arguments (for example, 'you can't see the wind but you believe in that').

Many of the people in my life who I love are theists, some of them are very devout theists. I love them for who they are to me, not what they do or don't believe.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

It must feel pretty good to believe you are better informed, more pure, and smarter than the people you disagree with.
