@FlatAssembler, you have a very naive view of guns, their dangers, and their worth as a deterrent,
It is naive to think that such a complicated problems as gun violence has such a simple solution as gun prohibition. And it is absurd to think that people giving up the most effective way of defending themselves is somehow going to end mass shootings.
What's truly fucking naive, is to believe handing civilians with no weapons training (the overwhelming percentage of civilian gun owners) a bunch of guns will actually make them better able to defend themselves. Untrained civilians are more likely to harm or kill themselves or innocent bystanders rather than successfully protect themselves. If you knew fuck-all about the subject, you'd know this.

It probably helps, but someone addicted to drugs probaby won't kill a room full of strangers so not a fair comparison
Yeah, I don't think were ever going to see "3 killed and 14 wounded in drive by bonging!" as a headline.

If your fridge had had a gun, it could have defended itself. How much more senseless violence must we endure from the libs refusing to arm major appliances??

Here, stating that you want a firearms license so you can protect yourself is an automatic disqualification.

It's a part of the american psyche I try really hard to understand. It twists things in weird ways. We justifiably worry about a bunch of randos with guns...but would it be better if the people who bought guns for self defense were trained pros - who also happened to believe that they lived in a post apocalyptic hellscape america and needed a sidearm to travel to the cracker barrel in the smoldering ruins of portland? I feel like that'd be worse. Like we'd have to put out some kind of alert whenever those guys go anywhere.

It’s not a safety issue, it’s a gun violence issue. As regards gun violence, the US, literally awash with guns, ranks 131st (out of 197) in terms of personal safety. You could try looking things up instead of guessing.
I grew up in a place that was mind-numbingly unsafe. The idea of getting a gun never crossed my mind.

Why focus only on gun violence? What makes you think that some murderers don't respond to gun control by using other weapons?

Do you need an explanation as to how guns ease the process of killing?
Really?
