Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering
Some think it's wrong with genetic engineering, I don't. I think it's exciting and very useful. Like making plants grow were they couldn't grow before, that is something can stop starvation and rescue milions of people.

Genetic engineering with humans involved are also soemthing that is very intresting. But it's not a big supprise that many think that it is wrong. I don't think that, it's a good thing and something that can help us evolve as a spiecis.

To design people in the future for special purposes sounds very exciting and useful. They can allready produce organs in labs, they are now working how to create a brain, which obviously the hardest thing to make.

RE: Genetic engineering
I don't have a problem with the study and the mechanics of genetic engineering. In effect farmers and growers have been doing that for thousands of years only without the lab coat and without an understanding of the mechanics behind it.

However:

This is true to some extent. There is a problem with that. A rose bush in a cabbage field is a weed. It takes away nutrients from plants that require it. Where a plant is wanted it is a crop, where it is not it is a pest. When you introduce a plant that can grow anywhere, some of the seeds of those plants will eventually find its way into nature and cause irreparable harm to the existing ecosystem. The new plants will be better suited to grow than the indigenous plants, the indigenous plants die out, and the animals relying on those indigenous plants starve.

So implementation of these genetic plants have to be observed with a lot of care.

RE: Genetic engineering
Genetic Engineering has been happening since man started to farm and grow their own plants, it just wasn't as sexy using DNA and shit. The cows we know today were engineered, the bananas we eat (well you eat, I'm allergic) don't grow in the wild and were altered from plantanes. It's all bullshit to be worried about it.

RE: Genetic engineering
GE has its pros and cons, it could be very useful like feeding starving people around the world. But knowing our government and the way it is, it will probably not be used for that. Instead they will use GE from creating super soldiers or something. The power of GE can be very beneficial if is not misused, but like i said, it most likely will be misused if we continue with it.

RE: Genetic engineering
The bigger issue with GE Plants is the likes of the big companies such as Monsanto jacking up the prices sky high and basically holding farmers hostage. Various poorer countries can't afford what they're asking for seeds.

RE: Genetic engineering
I think the whole thing needs to be handled VERY slowly and carefully, it can yield amazing results and change the way we live in so many amazing ways. It can also causes severe damage to the ecosystem and our own society due to the scale in which we can now use it.

However I am not really against using it with humans except one problem: at the moment we can only affect those who have not been born to my knowledge, this takes the childs chances for a normal life away without the childs permission and that I do not like. If we can affect changes in an adult that is 100% fine, it's the adults choice but, I do not beleive unborn or children can make such a choice, nor should they be able too. And unborn it's worse because we are forcing it on them right from the start.
