I'm a biochemistry student originally from Texas.
I spent the last ten years assuming I was agnostic, until a few short years ago when I really started thinking about it and discovered I was an atheist, and moreover, I was ok with that. As it turns out, my family who barely ever went to church on Christmas or Easter has big problems with that.
So it's been lonely. Just looking for new people to talk to.

well ,your family will cope with that, give them some time and just show them nothing changed in your attitude toward them

I can relate to the family dynamic, as my Mom only found out I was atheist at 70 years old when we went to court against other family members over a dispute and she swore on the Bible, but I took a sworn oath instead. She told me she was shocked, even though it should have been no surprise to her over the years, but she got over it quickly.
Hopefully yours will as well. However, Texas.....
It will all be over soon...
