It's hard to view this stuff in a vacuum, because I was raised Catholic, and being raised Catholic might very well have something to do with my confidence in God's existence. Then again, it might not have anything to do with it, and I might be one of those people who just naturally believes in God. If the former is true, then I can just say I believe in God because the Pope says God is real, and if the latter is true, well that's self-explanatory.

That's possibly a worse reason. You are aware that the Pope has frequently been a pretty horrid bastard? And that on more than a few occasions there have been several different Popes, so it's entirely possible that the "True Pope" got booted and the one that you're currently following is just a fraud.

I don't say that there is no god. But I'm pretty sure that if there is one, we haven't met it yet.
