14th of July Military Parade in Paris

14th of July Military Parade in Paris
This is the day in 1789 when Parisians took over the Bastille and emptied Louis XVI’s political prison (and executing him 3 years later).

I kind of like these military parades and D. Trump was probably not wrong about restoring them in the US. As the French President said today this is not only to “show strength in order to be feared”. In a democratic country it allows you to take a look back at the Nation’s history. To remember that we weren’t always born free. There was a time, not so long ago, in which the majority of us were subjects rather than citizens.

So what is a subject?

- It’s somebody who has no place basically. All the Church and the States works to convince everyone that they have no place and they use the name of God to promote this idea (Basically).

See we used to have similar event on the 23rd of April, 19th of May, 30th of May and 29th of October. Each of these are important for the Foundation of the Turkish Republic in the 29th of October 1923.

/ The first thing the Populist (Political Islamist) AK Party does after coming to power is to make these celebrations less visible.

I remember doing to these celebrations as a kid in the 80’s. I cannot say if was the greatest time in my life but I remember having fun in many ways.

So lefties of the previous decade might tell you (and they are right) that we simply need less weapon and more wind panels in this world. But there is also this disturbing fact about humanity. The Republic + military parades in democracies is a way of saying “See I have a state that belongs to me, (not some son of a monarch who is the son of a monarch who is the son of a monarch), I have space (self-works, freedom and inherent non-alienable value). And if you come for me I will use brutal force to stop you if I have to.

The simplest truths are usually the ones we are more likely to overlook. So – Yes parades are good. Besides if you are a tourist in Paris right now there is basically nothing else to do because almost everything is closed. (They take this very seriously and I want to salute them for that) Smile

Trump threw a parade for himself. It had nothing to do with national pride or pride in the military. It was a completely selfish and expensive display by the Chump in Chief.

Doofus even attended Les Mis before his fellatio parade. The irony.

And it's called Bastille Day. Le quatorze juillet. Fete nationale.

Interesting tidbit about the storming of the Bastille. Although the remaining seven prisoners were released, that was basically lagniappe. The chief goal of the mob was commandeering the gunpowder that was stored there.

Aside from anything else, I'm very skeptical of the deterrent power of parades. You know what deters aggressors? Strength. And your rivals do not need your parade to know your strength.

To me it seems like macron is compensating for something rather than showing strength. Maybe in days of yore parades were useful but today they're merely resources wasted on nationalistic grandstanding or similar idiocy.

Trump basically took an obscure factoid about the founding of the Army and used it as a fig leaf to give himself a needlessly expensive and dictatorial birthday present. I suspect more people might have accepted it if he held it on the Fourth of July, and even more if he didn’t have a track record of insulting veterans.

False; Myself and all other Brits were born subects of Her Majesty.
That includes the hereditory peers and even Prince Charles. Claiming that we "have no place" is absurdly false.

That’s because the King in England was executed more than a century before the King of France:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Execution_of_Charles_I

In fact the King’s divine authority started to be less absolute starting form 1215 AD:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magna_Carta

Since Henry VIII England has it’s own church that does not answer to Rome:

https://www.britannica.com/topic/Anglican-Communion

But if I am correct the key date is 1832 with the “First Reform Act” broadening the power of the Parliament and limiting the power of other feudal bodies in the government.

But for me the time when the British Monarchy became symbolic was when British rule in all the colonies ended. Today England is a nation like many others. Not an empire. (And I don’t think you are a subject. Not in the real sense of the word Smile )

You blatently don't know know what the word means. Propaganda isn't a substitute.
Either explain how your idea applied to Prince Charles, or stop trying to obfuscate.
