Life on Mars

Have you guys discussed the recent obervation of minerals in an ancient riverbed on Mars which are hard to explain other than by biological processes 3 billion years ago?
Here's the NASA press briefing on it

Could be ex life (as far as we know)

For sure, no one I have seen claims that this is an observation of recent life, the stuff in *that* rock they hope is 3 billion year old microbe poop. I think the rationale is, if there were microbes 3 billion years ago when the planet was wet, they may well have evolved to follow and live in the (probably existing) underground water caves when the planet surface dried up and lost its atmosphere.

Maybe it's where Jesus went to secretly jack off.

Seems like the best evidence we have found so far. There have been claims that Viking found current life in 1976 but this is a lot more solid. Now that the news is out, every geologist and chemist on the planet has a shot to falsify it. It'll be interesting to revisit this in a year.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

The Viking stuff was claims for extant life if I recall, like, microbes doing actual metabolism in the probe's experiment. A weird matter

We should talk more about how the rover collected the stones on Mars, including the one with potential life, but no one wants to give money so that NASA sends a machine to collect them.
So write to your local billionaire, and start petitions because we need fresh Martian rocks. People have technology and knowledge to do it but no money to answer the question if there is other life in space.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

and talking about getting those rocks from Mars...
Quote:Congress Abandons Retrieval of Martian Rocks That May Hold Evidence of Extraterrestrial Life
After years of delays and debate, the United States Congress has passed a NASA budget that omits any plan to retrieve several rock and soil samples collected and stored by the Perseverance Rover, including Martian rocks that may contain signs of past or present extraterrestrial life on the Red Planet.
According to the new compromise spending bill for the current fiscal year, it appears Congress has given in to the White House’s demands that resources needed to complete the planned Mars Sample Return (MSR) program be explicitly excluded from any approved budget. While the bill still awaits a final vote in Congress and the President’s signature, NASA officials are sending signals that the MSR program is effectively dead.
“The agreement does not support the existing Mars Sample Return program,” the bill states.
Victoria Hamilton, a planetary scientist at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) and chair of NASA’s Mars Exploration Program Analysis Group, described the death of MSR as “deeply disappointing” while also questioning the veracity of the current administration’s stated goals.
“When we’ve got memos coming out saying we want to be the dominant power in space, I wonder how we leave something this ambitious behind,” Hamilton said.

Let's face it, science is not that important to Christian Nationalists.

Let's face it, science is not that important to Christian Nationalists. These people are not interested in learning new things, they are happy to simply waste the work that has been done already.
Maybe we should give up and let intelligent squids take over.
