Natural Selection Seems Insufficient
#21
RE: Natural Selection Seems Insufficient
Is it a problem for things to come into existence ex nihilo? How did gods come into existence?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Created Himself? After you take Philosophy 101, next you might want to take Theology 101.
Moving on. You obviously think the idea of God "killing Himself" is an unrealistic concept. I already told you, these kinds of problems are easy to solve in panpsychism. Suppose you surgically extract one cell of a man's brain. It soon dies, right? Now suppose you had the surgical ability, after its death, reintegrate it with that man's brain. Hypothetically that cell could be restored to life, right?   That's the Incarnation and Resurrection in a nutshell. There is nothing implausible about surgery.
"Loophole for rules he made by himself".  As I understand it, Yahweh only believes in one rule - our obligation to our own consience. Christians who think that Yahweh has more rules than that are reading the Bible in a stupid way, and thereby opening up the Bible to strawman attacks from atheists. My apologies on behalf of these Christians.

I actually I gave two plausible views.
1. Panpsychism with a creator.  (Not necessarily Yahweh, I said).
2.  Panpsychism without a creator.  (Less plausible, I said, but not out of the realm of possibility).
I suggested you try intellectual honesty. That involves not arguing for positions you dont hold. You are christian for a reason, right?
What does your holy book say about your god and his powers, over and over? Tell us.

3. Reductionistic atheism.
Not plausible to you, because you are ignorant.

Answers to what? Your drivel about "inconceivable"? I dont need answers to anything, because i didnt come in here and made wild claims. You came in here and argued for your favourite philo-dribble, but here you go:

Consciousness is an emergent property of a brain.
The first mover: Does there have to be one? You have read too much outdated medieval philosophers with motivated reasoning.
The nature of the fundamental forces? You having no idea about them does not make Yahweh exist.
Evolution is a well established theory. You being too ignorant to understand does not make it untrue.

Yahweh: Inconceivable
Checkmate, theist.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Have you looked up panpsychism? I only believe in matter, never created or destroyed. God evolved out of this matter,  meaning He is a large piece of this matter, but by evolved I don't mean abiogenesis. I mean maturation of consciousness from negligibly sentient ("essentially" unconscious) to full sentience. You might want to re-read my OP.

Then gods do not actually explain how the universe they arise in came into existence, and it’s no more troubling that we don’t know how that universe arose than you not knowing how gods arose in it. No?

Philo dribble? Does  not address my reasoning. You dwell on insults because you lack good answers to my objections.

"The first mover: Does there have to be one?"  Yes, because it is incoherent/ inconceivable to have an infinite chain of dominos where there is no first domino. If you want to believe in such a thing, please don't accuse ME of philo dribble.

"The nature of the fundamental forces? You having no idea about them does not make Yahweh exist." So Newton was an idiot? He was ignorant? After all, Newton himself found himself unable to take gravity literally because the  notion of an immaterial force does not make sense. So he vacillated whethrer it was atmospheric pressure or the hand of God. It's not atmospheric pressure. Hm...I guess that doesn't leave many options then. Same issue with elecriticity, magnetism, electro-magnetism, nuclear "forces".

As Christopher Hitchins was fond of saying, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" So don't try to get me to believe in immaterial forces. All I see is matter. Immaterialism is an extraordinary claim. Newton didn't buy this nonsense, and you shouldn't either.  Pretty much leaves us with the hand of God, which is NOT an extraordinary claim if God is material being who uses His material hands to impose the "force" (so to speak) of gravity, electricity, and so on.

"Chapter and verse please for Yahweh believing in only one rule....."  Take a look at Romans 14 for example, Or 1 Corin 8. Or the numerous verses that use the word "conscience" such as Romans 2.  Or simply logical necessity:

1. God is just.
2. Righteousness can only be to one's conscience (it's obviously the best a man can do).
3. Therefore God holds to rule 2 alone. Duh.

Any alternative raeding of the Bible is complete stupidity.
