Meaning of Life
I would like to make this thread to, in a way, counter my previous thread "Life?" In it I described the meaning of life as being, in a simple sense, nothing. I'm an avid reader of the work's of Friedrich Nietzsche, and in my opinion he gives the most sound and reasonable meaning to life; "The will to power". Here are some quatations from his works involving this idea: "My idea is that every specific body strives to become master over all space and to extend its force (--its will to power) and to thrust back all that resists its extension. But it continually encounters similar efforts on the part of other bodies and ends by coming to an arrangement ("union") with those of them that are sufficiently related to it: thus they then conspire together for power. And the process goes on--"

"[Anything which] is a living and not a dying body... will have to be an incarnate will to power, it will strive to grow, spread, seize, become predominant - not from any morality or immorality but because it is living and because life simply is will to power... 'Exploitation'... belongs to the essence of what lives, as a basic organic function; it is a consequence of the will to power, which is after all the will to life."

People looking for meaning in everything... I don't get it. I certainly disagree with this guy over what the meaning of life is. As if there were only one Levitate
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

Life simply is. It is a collection of metabolic processes, trying to spread and perpetuate itself.

Yes, and as Nietzsche explains it, is all apart of the will to power. All we're doing from our birth till our death are furthering ourselves. Progressing and building upon our knowledge, ideals, etc.

Too high level and anthrocentric.

I find it quite simple to grasp. Once you apply it to the simple formula that Nietzsche uses: "Life is the will to power; nothing else, and you yourself are the will to power; nothing else

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Isn't the 'function' what we're all driven to explore... the 'religious' gene that all humans exhibit? That's certainly what religious endeavour exploits.

I try to ignore Nietzsche. I tried reading a book of his years ago. Such negativity should destroy itself. The polar opposite to a common sense take on purpose. But perhaps I didn't give him a fair chance and am missing some great stuff. Dunno
