Frodo this is where you go wrong. The argument is centered on the truth of the oral traditions and not on the bible at the moment.I highly doubt that you can maintain the integrity of myths totally based on oral traditions which is clearly demonstrated in the game of chinese whispers.Regarding the recitation of the Pentateuch that is no small feat but the followers of Islam are required to memorize the entire Koran, once again your assumptions prove nothing. All that shows is how dedicated one can be to his religious beliefs and convictions.

My point is that this is an ancient tradition, not just what happens now. I also alluded to the progression of that practice, with novices proved by their ability to remember huge tracts. Multiply that by the huge number of novices and you get one hell of a checking system of the accuracy of the actual written text. The game Chinese Whispers seeks to dispel the fact. It really applies to rumour.

I don't assume this was the case. It's quite obviously more than that. You seem to skinp the topic in your dismissal. I'd like to see some reasoning please.

2.The original texts are no longer in existence.
3.The authors whose names appear on many of those biblical books Old and New testament were not actually written by the persons they were attributed to.
4.The bible has been "lost in translation" due to mistranslation or at times the scribes own personal beliefs or agendas.
5.The bible is full of blatant contradictions in it's narrative of its many tales.
6.The bible was written during a pre-scientific era thus explaining why religion has fallen short when it comes to scientific truths and discoveries as compared to those that have been 'divinely revealed'.
7.It is literally impossible to trace the life of the historical Jesus since the 4 gospels and thier telling of his story seem like 4 different stories about 4 different people.
Finally, all of this can be researched and found to be factual statements if done objectively.

All I see here are similarities and empty accusations. Let's explore a point thorougly to see if we can get anywhere. Your choice.

RE: The Bible
Chatpilot, (or anybody else),your posts all the way through this thread speak of many, many contradictions in the Bible. It's a long thread and I may have missed it but I do not see where you have listed even one. I believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God-and as I said in my intro I love a good debate-please tell me one contradiction and let's talk about it. And please do not tell me to read Joe Smith's Book of Contradictions as I do not have access to any of these books. If the contradictions are in the Bible please give me chapter and verse.

Thanks, Icthus

The world was created in 6 days, the dome of the sky, the four corners of the earth and windows in the sky ... none of these are literally true. There are more ... many, many more!

I accept of course that the bible might be metaphor but if it is you have to interpret and as such you CANNOT be sure you're interpretation is the correct one ... logic therefore dictates that your bible CANNOT be inerrant.

RE: The Bible
icthus if it is biblical chapter and verse you want you picked the right guy for the job because that is what I am going to give you.Lets start with creation and little by little if you would like we can spend months on this and go through the entire bible if you'd like.I will be using the King James Version of the scriptures exclusively.

Genesis 1:25-31
25.And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26.And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

This implies that God created man after the animals.

27.So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28.And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29.And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30.And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

31.And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Next is Genesis 2:7,8 and verses 18-20
7.And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8.And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

18.And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19.And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

This implies that God created man before the animals.

20.And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

Now my question to you is after having read and compared the two stories I have shown you, which one was created first man or the animals.Read it carefully and give me an answer.

RE: The Bible
One question. What does "after his kind" actually mean?

RE: The Bible
How could anyone actually read the bible if it is at all like the above quotes. Sounds like a bunch of BS. We should burn all of the bibles and roast marshmellos on the flames.

RE: The Bible
By following the flow of the verse I think "after his kind" is a reference to the specific species or type of animal described.

It makes no sense. You can interpret the writting in many different ways. That was the whole idea I imagine. That way, it appeals too many people, without actual specifics.

RE: The Bible
I agree my friend, the bible is not supposed to make sense since its nothing but a collections of myths and fairy tales written by various authors during different times.
