ROFLOL Oh hell, that line right there is what got you the Kudo from the resident Ent.

Well done! Clap
Meanwhile, back to reality. Like these boards where members talk about how much the U.S. is hated! And to imagine, I'm suppose to be an out of touch American who thinks every dollar of that aid money goes to the starving people of east Africa.

Pierre Nkurunziza is President in East Africa where Burundi was ranked of late as the most corrupt East African State.

And while his excellency Nkurunziza claims all sorts of reform are on the agenda, on August 26, 2010 he took oath of office to serve his second and last five year term on a ballot where he appeared unopposed. Because his opposition, Former rebel leader Agathon Rwasa, fled the country.

And what's the ranking after those first five years under Nkurunziza?

Agenda's, promises, from a man often called the "avocado President" because he's allegedly seen in villages helping the poor plant avocado tree's.
Makes me think of the false Antoinette quote, "Let them eat cake!"
"Let them pick avocados!"

And I'll say it again, for the Ent fan base. There is no law that says other countries, richer countries, countries not in our present situation in the eyes of the tax payers, can't give millions of dollars to the effort to feed the poor in east Africa.
There's no reason Operation Blessing can't shove millions into aid all on their own and make those words count. BLESSING! For the impoverished and the hungry there.
When the people in this country need help too. We can't save the world from itself. The people of east africa are starving. But is Pierre Nkurunziza? He owns a pineapple farm. Sure, someone set it afire not long ago, but he's far from poor. And while he claims to be a reformer, he's allegedly trying to change the Constitution so he can have another chance at sitting for another term. Meanwhile, his people are poor and hungry but if they're gay he's all for jailing them. Thank goodness that effort failed.

To imagine all those millions get to the people who need it is naive. Meanwhile, right here at home, our government could give over 600 million to our people directly and see it working as it creates jobs, gives credit to corporations that return industry to America and make up for that by taxing hell out of those companies that outsource. In other words a 180 from how the tax system works now. They could upgrade the infrastructure, etc...

NO ONE SAID THOSE PEOPLE IN EAST AFRICA SHOULD STARVE!

And for those, like you, who say; how didn't I say that? Well, hell if you have to ask you clearly wouldn't understand the answer when you missed the first post all together.

Drought is, in and of itself, de-stabilizing, Shel.

All the peace in the world is not going to make it rain and reverse a process which has been going on since 5000 BC.

I agree, but aid is far more helpful if the people who need it are getting it.

If their environment can't support sufficient agriculture they need some capital investment to produce goods to export while importing necessary food - Until they manage that this problem will not end.

That is why I love this program they have for refugee camps where women make baskets and aid organizations sell them online. It's kind of hard to do any kind of import/export business around there, though. Sad

Their environment CAN support agriculture. The issue is that they do not have the capital to invest in modern agricultural systems. Instead they perform what we call low capital high labor tasks, such as growing flowers that we turn into pesticide to feed our ag systems (high capital low labor).

If only farm equipment didn't provide such a stable platform for technicals.

Well, dur, Void. Big Grin That is about all they can manage, though. What else are they going to export? There is no way that they can export minerals and fossil fuel without it become a slave industry. All they have is baskets, which is kind of my point.
