Does anybody know of any reputable journal articles or books which discuss the existence (or lack therefore) of at least a small village at the site of present day Nazareth in the first century AD.

I've read Rene Salm's The Myth of Nazareth

Salm is not an archaeologist himself but he undertakes an extensive review of the archaeological finds on this question.

The one thing that must always be kept in mind about modern Nazareth is that it is a Palestinian city. However, the one thing which Israelis and Palestinians can agree upon ( whole-heartedly ) is the continued desirability of fleecing idiot xtian pilgrims of their money by showing them phony holy places.

There is surprisingly little archaeological evidence for even a small settlement at the site prior to the second century AD.
