Hehehe, so we all know how faith would deal with aliens. I would also burn the place to ash before I ever shook hands (and after I'd stolen much needed stuff). It would be a capital offense to speak of "them" thereafter.

(we would be at least likely to have some things in common, as civilization implies society and proximity. We could complain about each other in ways that were completely understandable to either...broadly speaking..lol. The most common sort of common ground amongst social animals. Being frustrated with your fellows..lol -unless we're positing some fantasy land superace.)

I think a better question than is there intelligent life out there is would an hypothetical, intelligent alien race see us as anything more than a virus infecting the universe. Even if said race was not hostile or violent, would they really want to take the chance that the stupidity and violence that dominates the human race could spread beyond the Earth?

It is highly likely that an advanced race would see us as a stain upon the universe, ready to spread its influence, and it would decide to nip the problem in the bud.

I think that it is more than likely we would be treated as well as the American Indian was treated.

On that note, isn't it interesting how our notions of what an alien might be, look like, or think like are based primarily on the limitations of makeup and special effects available to the creators of 60's television programs? Your reply reminds me of the trouble I got into asking why a particular Oz politician walks funny. Despite a series of my trade mark bizarre posts I just seemed to get in more and more trouble. I'm keeping clear of parliament house for a while.
