RE: Foodie Blog
Ahhh, Sarah: I saw her at a university venue when she had just written that song. One of the most magical music events I have attended. I LOVE that song.

People might diss British cuisine, but I have to say, pasty rocks. I'm grateful to have several local eateries that do it well

Cornish pasties? Here we just call them 'pasties'.(pronounced 'pars-tees') They are sold at lunch bars all over Australia, along with Aussie meat pies. Both eaten with tomato sauce. (ketsup).

What a coincidence: I made a batch of 6 on Monday night. The idea was to have two for dinner, and freeze the rest. However, over the course of the evening,I eated them all. About 2 hours after finishing the last one, I felt quite ill. (I think one of 'em might have been off) Thinking

PS we still have heaps of Fish 'n' Chip shops, where you can still buy REAL hamburgers!

I thought I had posted this here already, but I'll add it again, considering the content of this thread:

http://www.eatsomethingsexy.com/wordpress/

It got sent to me after I went into high praises of the French bakery down the way that served Lavender Lemonade. I don't hold much truck with "aphrodisiacs," but if you're looking for a light and sweet-tart picnic drink, this can't be beat.

Quote:A lusciously aromatic herb, lavender makes a versatile flavoring in fresh flower, dried or infused states. Boil a pinch of dried lavender with equal parts water and sugar then mix in fresh lemon juice to make your very own love tonic, aka lavender lemonade. (It goes down brilliantly with an added shot of tequila).

The bakery omits the tequila, but does make the lemonade and pours sparkling water over it. It's phenomenal.

You did mention the lavender lemonade somewhere, and showed a pic of it, too, I believe.

Its addicting. I wish I had the time and money to cook more. I love everything about it, from stopping at all the different particular stores to get just the right ingredients to laying everything out to making it to plating it and eating it. I'd love to cook my way through a Spanish cookbook I've tried some stuff from - it has all sorts of recipes and notes from one guy's travels around the country, with traditional foods and quotes from Don Quixote. It's awesome. I stewed/steamed trout on a bed of tomatoes and spices some months ago based on a recipe in there. It was pretty damn good.
