It was during my vocational training, when I was supposed to become a nurse. And yes, I had STERILE gloves on, wouldn't want anyone to catch a urinary infection just because I shoved something up their pee-pee

4:30 am and can't sleep, despite the painkillers and sedatives. What is it about hospitals that screw up sleep so badly?

I got up and walked around a bit a few times yesterday. It's hard to believe how weak I feel.

The one thing I've learned from all of this - listen to your body and don't ignore persistent symptoms no matter how minor they may seem. I could have easily died and by the time my symptoms were "bad", it was nearly too late.

P.S. the nurses are decidedly un-hot and there is no booze on the menu. WTF?

I was in hospital a couple of weekends ago with chest pains. Turns out mine was minor... I have an irregular heart beat and now I'm on warfarin and some beta blocker in preparation for a corrective shock to my heart to get it working correctly. I pushed to be released from the hospital real quick so haven't had that nightmare... only feel quite weak at the moment.

I was shocked at two other blokes in my room with obvious ongoing coronary issues... one begging everyone that came into earshot for a ciggy and the other continuously asking if someone could sneak him a crafty whisky. Hillarious.

I pushed to be released from the hospital real quick so haven't had that nightmare... only feel quite weak at the moment.

Glad to hear it was minor. That's always a relief. I wouldn't be looking forward to that shock any more than you would. I'm not a big fan of medical procedures - I freaked out a bit when they told me that they were going to first stick a camera and then a clot trapping filter in my inferior vena cava via my neck. Fortunately, they gave me some good drugs and I don't remember anything about the procedure despite being awake.

As much as I've been joking about booze, I actually rarely drink and it's about the last thing on my mind, along with sex. Surprisingly, I have no desire whatsoever for a cigarette, even though I haven't had one for two days. There's something about a scare like this to change your perspective on bad habits.

Two other blokes in your room? Is that typical in the UK? I'm fortunate to have a private room with a nice view of Mt. Hood. It can't be my crappy insurance, I think all of the rooms in the cardio-pulmonary unit are private.

Actually I do feel quite a bit better - better being relative. I'm breathing much easier now and I'm not in a lot of pain, except when I walk. I think I'm going to need use a cane for awhile.
