I think that's what the image on the left was promoting.

Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

If those who kept diets had organizations, communities and certain binding rituals revolving that practice, and if they were practically a majority and it was an important part of their lives, I don't see what would stop them from wanting to prohibit others from eating donuts while they didn't. 

This has less to do with the content of the thing being prohibited and more to do with the natural desire to have others live like ourselves, especially when we believe we are taking the difficult route therefore making us especially laudable and right... 

This is to be found everywhere. Tolerance itself, as an idea one believes in, is something to be promoted. Look at the PC movement and you will see this apparent paradox in practice. 

People will be happier when they realize how similar all of our practices actually are. That is not to say all beliefs are consequentially equivalent, but merely that they share a plethora of similarities at an operational level.
