Australia gets Carbon Tax :(

RE: Australia gets Carbon Tax :(
Woah now, the liberals? lets not go crazy =P. Tony Abbot the bigoted smuggler of budgies will never get my vote. Even if all other parties had 'purposely running the australian economy into the ground' (and lets face it, some of them do have that) I would rather through my vote away than put a tick next to him and his looney ideas.

Or is it??

The whole "Carbon tax/ Carbon Credits Scheme and the Resources Tax" smells awfully like a scam on the Aussie tax payer who has been forking out for "Environmentally Friendly" adjustments to our use of fossil fuels and Energy (electricity) and now the Fookn bastards want to monopolise the cigarette packets with QUIT(see company trademark here) advertising and rob the Tobacco Companies of their Intellectual Property and Company Logos.

Fuckin gummint!! Angry

Wink. Well, the resources tax is now agreed upon by the Government and the Mining Companies. A mutual agrrement.

In terms of cigarette packs, it just reduces the number of smokers, which is a good thing.

In terms of the price on pollution (aka 'the carbon tax'), it will happen eventually anyway. It is a natural progression of intellectual evolution and things will have to change one way or the other. Better sooner than later.

Government policies on smoking are generally a joke.

We've been calling smokes "coffin nails" for hundreds of years, I'm not sure that warning labels are really what we need. Similarly policies that attempt to tax the shit out of smokers don't seem to have much of an effect either. I always find the explanations given as to where all the tax money goes (fund this or that program for the children) hilariously fucked up as well. If the tax was successful at curbing smoking then where would that wonderful funding come from? Sin taxes, leveraged against addicts because the people who propose them know damn fucking well that the smoker will continue to pay whatever price for his smokes as long as it's even remotely reasonable. Why not raise the price to $130 a pack through taxes? That would work. But then no one would buy them (the "less than rich" being the largest demographic for smokers), and the gov couldn't horn in on the profits.

Horseshit.

Smile I take it your a smoker? Australia has one of the lowest smoking rates rer capita in the World. The Government policies, advetising, education and taxing work, but it takes genearations for the message to get through and like most things, change is slow. Once you start smoking, its a hard one tho, but not impossible, take it from me!!! Hell, some people dont even want to give up , until it affects their pocket or health, usually the latter.
