I understand that life only has whatever meaning individuals find in it, but I never even found the need to find meaning in my life personally. I was just wondering if anybody else felt that way too.
Heh, it's common for people to jump in at the end of the thread, rather than reading from the start. Just wanted it to be clear that I was the OP.
Certainly there are a lot of people who feel as you do, and there's nothing wrong with that at all.

Humanists/Naturalists: What gives your life meaning?

People like to think they are the lords of creation when in fact it is actually cats.
Afterall, when was the last time you saw a cat feeding a human?

My work gives my life meaning, because it is what I do most. The label of teacher is one I take pride in having. I love children and their open framework of reference. The way they learn is amazing to watch, from the ones whom you can already foresee finishing their PhDs, though they are only ten, to the little renegades who spend 90% of their energy challenging authority (that 10% left is a magic factor, too). I don't yet have children of my own, and I divorced over five years ago. There is a special someone who is incredibly dear to me, but she lives overseas and I am not sure we will ever be together despite my best efforts to make that happen. Consequently, work is my chief creative outlet.

"I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
"Cats," he said eventually. "Cats are nice."

As for me? Plants. Nature. Not surprising. I don't feel empty. I feel alive.

My family.
Without them I have nothing, I am nothing, I wouldn't hesitate to end my own finite existence if anything ever happened to them.

Why does life need meaning?

Quote:What gives meaning to your personal life? Share your story.
A few things, really.
Music/singing/songwriting - for as long as I can remember I have expressed myself through music, no matter if i have been angry or sad, or happy or whatever. I often find it hard to express how I feel when I'm confronted with a situation where I am required to in real life, so I put it in song. I am never able to tolerate silence. if I am at home alone, there is always music going somewhere. If music was taken from my life I seriously don't think I could live.
My life has the most meaning when I am independent. I'm a lone wolf of sorts, and mostly that mentality was forced upon me by other people trying to do everything for me, which I absolutely can't stand, so much so that I now have a need for personal distance from others, and I feel threatened if they entre my personal space without my leave, and if I absolutely require assistance, it must be upon my terms.
I live for travel, for doing things with my life. Performing in different places, all the little things that make me me give my life meaning.
people also give my life meaning. I am a community services student, so acts of kindness and compassion and social justice mean a lot to me.
Quote:Frankly, I wish that the fruits of my work useful and glorious appearing of the world that the fruits of my labor awaken the mind and unlock the feeling of those who are deprived of light.
Ridiculous to say, outside the sky was nothing.
There is not one world, one earth, one sun, but as many worlds as we see bright sparks on us.
