Why does the universe need to possess mind-consciousness?

Irrational, serious answer.

Because a body need a mind to function.
That is a rational answer Irrational.  Wink

Put it in this way.
50 years ago people watched black&white tv.
Today they watch color tv.
This is a change in people culture so to speak.
We got a myriad of similar changes.
People change their way to do thing so in a way it is a biological evolution but wait a minute Cross.
Do these changes really lead to a progress in conscious evolution?
Of course they don't that is why the word evolution should only be used when a change for the better in
the consciousness occur.
All the rest means absolutely nothing even if some idiots in the past reckon that changes in people culture means progress.  Banging Head On Desk
The same goes for changes in technologies.
They are just changes which do not necessary mean progress.
Today we have the fridge to keep food longer.
In the past they didn't but the food taste good and was devoid of chemicals and preservative.
So there is a change for the better and one for the worse.
In other words there is no progress and evolution means nothing.
Evolution can only be within but this is an argument too difficult to understand
for dreamer like you.  Banghead
Have a good day anyway.  Rolleyes

You can't know if food tasted better in the past. I'm pretty sure about that.

The quality change in television is about technology, not so much about culture, so that's worded badly.

Evolution can mean both progress and what you mean by it. That's what's so wonderful about language, it doesn't need to be fixed and rigid, or our thinking wouldn't evolve.

Just because there are some side-effects to technological progress, doesn't mean that life was better in the past, when there was less of that going on. In fact, life was much more miserable in the past, people died of various diseases that aren't as much of or at all a threat today. They lived much less, on average, and most of them led awful lives, in a kind of Sysiphean struggle to get by.

As for all that jazz about consciousness, right on, buddy! That's great, but you shouldn't infer wrong things about external reality from your internal experience, however great and insightful it might appear to be.

Son.  Hi

I wish you knew what you are talking about.  Banghead
In this very moment that your eyes are stuck into the monitor the radiations damage to a certain extend your eyes and your brain.
In the past a man could have a good sexual life until very old.
These days when you are over 40 you need viagra.
Son, I could go on and on with all the negative sides of the today so called modern life but I am sure you still couldn't get it.  Banging Head On Desk

In totally different stages of evolution but they are there.
There is no other way to describe two similar things.
If the universe would only be made up of air or only of water or only of matter then we could not say that the universe is a body but because the universe has all the elements that we also have we can say that it is a body.  Lightbulb

All the elements that are in the universe are also in an automobile.  Does that mean that a car has mind-consciousness?  This is nothing but an analogy failure.  The universe doesn't have all the elements of the human body because it doesn't have mind-consciousness.  It also doesn't have hands, an anus, a mouth, or a vagina.  You've taken a parallel between two things and assumed that because those are parallel, everything must be parallel.  That's just stupid.  Moreover, we take actions such as picking up an apple.  The universe doesn't take actions, it just obeys the laws of nature.  There is not the slightest hint that it has a mind.  It isn't a zombie because it doesn't act.  It's simply lifeless, with no mind governing it.

You fail again yog.  Banging Head On Desk

Consciousness doesn't have to be a consciousness that is fully aware or 100% aware.
If that would be the case it would be God.
A car is made of matter but matter is made of a consciousness that is not aware of who she is.
Consciousness vary from 0 aware to 100% aware as in God case.
Matter is located at the very bottom.
Plants a way up, animals more up, humans even more up in awareness until they merge into God awareness so yes a car has got consciousness but her consciousness is in a latent stage therefore it is not possible to see consciousness in a car.
That doesn't mean that consciousness is not there.  Lightbulb

I'd just like to say my imagination can kick your imagination's ass any day of the week, Rikmeister. I'm imagining that all that kool-aid you drank from that swami guy is the source of all your ideas. See how my imagination just assigned your imagined world to an inferior role in my own? That's pretty much what your imagination attempts to do to ours every day on these forums. No real harm really, otherwise we'd probably both be banned.

I can assure you that my 43 year old husband does not need Viagra, has no problems maintaining an erection or filling me with his sperm.

I've got twenty years on your husband and give my wife a good dribbling at least weakly weekly.

That is not how evolution works.
Every single element exist in a different stage of evolution.
Matter is matter air is air and water is water.

Are you serious? I'm completely serious, 110% serious with this question. Do you not know that air and water are matter? Do you know what matter is? You're wrong, how do you justify it this time? Are you claiming that air and water aren't matter? Go collect your fucking nobel prize, genius. Good god, not overexaggerating but I never thought I'd stumble across an adult this thick-headed.

Imbecile.  Hi

If you take water and you turn it into ice you can well call it matter as much as you like.
The consciousness in that water had a certain degree of consciousness but by turning it into ice
the consciousness decreases to the level of matter so of course you can say that ice is matter.
At the same time if you turn a rock into ground and if you use that ground to grow a plant then
that rock that now turned into a plant increase her consciousness.
You can play with all these elements and change them if you want but as far as they are water and not ice they are water and as far as a rock is a rock and not a plant it is a rock.
You got to take them as they are now not what they may be if.
Right?  Lightbulb

Rik,

Can you please define and elaborate on what mind-consciousness is?

Awareness of who you are.
If an animal would be aware of who he really is he probably would die straight away.
Just imagine to be encased into an animal body when in reality you are so much more than an animal.
That is why to be an atheist is such a bad idea.
To refuse to understand who you really are is a terrible mistake.
It just means to continue to be encased into a human body again and again instead of being free.
You never thought about that Kus, did you?   Rolleyes
