The Death Penalty - are you for or against it and why?
RE: The Death Penalty - are you for or against it and why?
I oppose the death penalty because it does not deter crime, it serves as vengeance not justice, people can be wrongly convicted and killed, and it is just down right barbaric. Just put the murderers in prison for life.

I think if a murderer admits and pleads guilty, he should be put to death.
Life is a precious thing, but those who have taken lives or plan tot kill shouldn't be here.

Why waste our government tax dollars not only to feed and house these criminals, but pay for their cable and entertainment.

If someone breaks into my house and has a weapon with intent to kill me, I will kill that bastard.
Kind of harsh, but if you break into a home with intentions of killing anyone who gets in your way, then you should be prepared to die.

Not exactly the same situation, though. In your case you are facing an armed intruder - and frankly in that case my bet would be on him winning not you - but let's say you get lucky and manage to kill him. It is a survival situation and in most states you wouldn't even be charged for defending yourself.

However, strapping an incarcerated prisoner to a gurney and sticking a needle in his arm hardly rises to the level of danger.

It is mere vindictiveness.

Quite funny, some criminals are horrible at aim. I love hearing stories about how a wild gun man shot 40 some odd bullets, and only 2 bullets actually hit anyone.
Let's just say I'll die trying to kill him then Wink

Keeping a prisoner incarcerated is not free. Prisoners are taking away millions of dollars from the governments.

We can't let murderers free out on the streets.
We shouldn't have to pay for criminals to live.

It costs far more to process a death penalty case than to keep someone in jail. Certain states have discontinued capital punishment because of the financial drain...New Mexico comes to mind instantly. Other states, such as Illinois, have abolished it because of the inherent weakness of the system in ensuring that only guilty people are actually killed.

I grant you there are states where they don't give a rat's ass about shit like that....Texas comes to mind...and I don't even consider those assholes civilized.

Going to stick with that, are you?

I'm against it, for the obvious reason that miscarriages of justice do occur, and you can't bring somebody back from the dead.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

We shouldn't have to pay for criminals to live.

It must be great to just make statements like this and not actually think about the consequences of them being implemented. There are so many variables in this kind of thing, I couldn't even begin to list them. What about crimes of passion? What about coercion and blackmail? What about pre-emptive action?

And if you are saying you shouldn't have to pay for criminals to live, what are you suggesting? That we have no prisons? Or we kill all criminals? For every murderer and rapist you pay for, there's ten drug offenders, or violators of parole, or shoplifters. Your tax pays for all of those, too. So which of them are you happy to pay for, and if the answer is 'none', what's the answer?

I support the death sentence in situations where an individual has committed a severe crime and cannot be safely released back into society. I am against the death sentence because I am concerned that innocent people may be executed and unlike a prison sentence that can't be undone. Given that there have been instances where individuals have been convicted of severe crimes which they were subsequently found to be innocent of I am therefore against the death sentence.
