17mpg?...
My Ford Fiesta would give me something closer to 40mpg. Sure, it's not a truck... but did you really have to haul a truck to where you were going?
I wish to one day have an EV and leave the mpg measure behind me forever. Every household should have a truck, even if it's a small utility truck as Thump has. Once you get a truck you'll wonder how you ever got along without one. If you do a lot of yard work at your home a truck would be far better than a car trunk to haul a bunch of mulch back and forth from your home to the place you buy your landscaping stuff. In my truck I can get everything in one load, actually saving me gas. Or, if you buy a piece of furniture, put it in the back of the truck and save yourself a delivery bill. Trucks are an investment and they hold their value for quite a long time.

At the moment I drive an older GMC full size 1500 with a 4.3/ 6. To me it's still under powered. I drive the freeway a lot and I've encountered many situations where I need the extra horses. But a 6 in your light truck seems like it could scoot along the freeways with ease. Another good thing with your new truck over your Ford, if you're going to haul anything it's not going to struggle against a load as your 4 cyl Ford would. In that respect, it would do better on gas.
Well, mine's not a work truck, just light utility/household stuff. But yeah, a fullsize with a six just don't seem right.

All three of those trucks were grossly underpowered. I finally test drove a Chevy truck some years back that had a 350 that was backed up by a 4spd manual. Talk about power. I thought I was driving a muscle car!
Yeah, all those sound like they'd be huffing up the hills here. Remind me some time to take a pic or two, the roads here are very three-dimensional, elevation varying 700-800 foot inside half-a-mile at points. My Ranger would run out of breath halfway up them. That's a big thing about this Nissan -- I've got power enough to get out of tight spots better.
It's all a trade-off, as you already know. and no doubt, much more torque for the climb than your Ford has.

err..... cost of truck VS cost of delivery ?!
How is that in favor of having a truck??
I do admit it's far easier to use your own stuff than depend on others to deliver it to you... but it's not cost-efficient.
If your main use for the vehicle is transportation of less than 5 people, a small car is a far better investment - much better mileage, cheaper maintenance, cheaper insurance (as far I know)...
Besides, European parking spaces are not very truck friendly

Y'all I've already tried to explain to Poca the magic of having a truck and the boy just doesn't understand ;p
Also *whispers* First On Race Day!
Lol I'm a Ford junkie. I don't usually care about name brands in my life but I do get a bit silly when it comes to cars. I made fun of my husband for months when he traded his truck for a Kia Soul (Although now I must admit it's nice to have a small car that can whip around Austin and save gas while still having my truck for the other stuff)
Mandys official rankings are as follows (lol)
Ford, Chevy, Dodge- the big three and only acceptable kinds of trucks. They are in order of awesomeness.
Toyota- well at least it's not a Nissan
Nissan- don't make me laugh
Everything else- is there anything else?
I've figured it out. Ford makes the best trucks, Chevy makes the best sports cars (Sting Rays are the most beautiful car in the world), and Dodge makes a hell of a mini van lol
Ok I can really keep talking cause I love talking about cars but I will shut up now. Sorry for the long post, I get excited

I get the fascination with a big car... the availability of space for any eventuality... but it just seems like a waste of money and waste of fuel, for most applications that you put it through - commuting.

Lol the big three like to give each other acronyms making fun of everyone and since Ford is only four letters it's the easiest to do and has a lot more so we made some good ones too. Notice I capitalized all the letters of Ford in it.

I'd love to have two vehicles, but can't afford that luxury. Given that I live out in the country, I have a truck so that I can haul things to and fro. I don't have trash service where I live, for instance -- they want $33/month, and I live by myself. I carry my trash to my jobsite and dispose of it there. Sure would hate to do that using a Fiesta.
