Jesus thought soon meant within the lifetimes of the people he preached to, and that was thousands of years ago. Some believe a thousand years to us is a day to Yahweh, so soon could be when the sun dies one or two billion years from now. If humanity religion last that long, I'm sure there will be people on the news talking about how revelation was true right before we freeze to death from lack of the sun's heat.
Jeepers...The sun will not extinguish the way you describe it AT ALL.
It will become hotter...WAY HOTTER..as the sun will expand enveloping the Earth and incinerating it over billions of years. This is a result of the sun losing it's mass to space, thus becoming red giant which becomes less dense, allowing it's outer layers to expand exponentially outward. It won't be as hot overall, but the earth will be exposed to picotons of plasma at a million degrees or so, enough to melt the earth like a piece of solder. (Earth is primarily made of Iron ore)
