I always liked to believe I wasn't adopting an SC accent but sometimes I hear it in my voice, especially when I'm tired/lazy and slurring words. And I pretty much never say the g on -ing words. And say y'all a lot.I lived in the Columbia area for nearly 20 years...didn't pick up much of that accent and lost most of it pretty quickly when I moved. Might be because I hated SC so much and was so happy to see it in my rear view mirror.
My husband and I met in the Los Angeles. When we were engaged the subject of moving back to South Carolina after we were married came up a few times but I argued that we met in LA and he was also living in LA at the time, therefore, since he met me on my home turf it wasn't fair to take me away from my home. If I'd met him in South Carolina that would be different. Well, somehow I convinced him that this was logical. But the REAL reason was that I just couldn't live in South Carolina. It was too religious and way too conservative. I could visit, I could maybe spend a couple of weeks there but damned if I would ever live there. I would be totally miserable and unhappy living in the South. I'm a West Coast gal. The West Coast is the Best Coast!
