I am not going to question this, other than to say it has to do with math. Chess is all about math.
Nothing to do with maths. It’s to do with the rules of the game. If you get a pawn all the way to your opponents first rank, you can play it as a queen (technically, you can play it as any piece you like).
Since there are 16 pawns in the game, you can reach a total of 18 queens.
