I looked some stuff up (I do that when I don’t know things) and while Whitmer has the legal authority to issue executive orders, she is also required to submit those orders which have the force of law to the state legislature for approval. She failed to do so, which is why the courts vacated the order. Where it got sticky was that her executive order mandated a $500 fine and a misdemeanor charge.
Is it a good idea to wear a mask? Yup. Did Whitmer break the law with her executive order to do so? Yup.
