Back in 2009, Sam and I went with my family on a holiday to Scotland. We stayed in a lovely little house in the middle of a glen relatively near to Strathpeffer, at the end of Loch Meig. It's part of the Stratchconon Estates. On one of our daytrips we went to Plockton, the filming location for Hamish Macbeth and (of more interest to me) The Wicker Man. There is a delightful little chip shop in the harbour, and it struck me as amusing that they seemed baffled when we asked for roe and chips, as though they'd never heard of it before. What was particularly funny to me was that in The Wicker Man, Edward Woodward's Police Sergeant Howie comes to the island of Summerisle in search of a missing girl named Rowan and is frustrated by the locals' insistence that she doesn't exist. I thought that maybe the chippie staff thought we wanted Rowan chips and were doiing the same thing to us.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
