According to her, a woman in Islam is worth 1/2 of a man. (She actually tried to argue that this was proof that Islam respects women. I don't know how she thought that saying women are worth 1/2 of men would help her case. Maybe she assumes that women outside of Islam are worth less than 1/2 of a male?)
At any rate, her English wasn't very good, so it's possible she meant that men and women are considered equal halves by Islam.
Does anyone here know if Islamic texts give any fractions for the worth of women? I will consider it bigoted and horrid unless 1 woman=1 man.
Hi ,
I'm gonna make a quick explanation .By the way my english is also not perfect , I hope you will understand .
According to islamic rules , men have to work , women dont have .
Men are obliged to support their family , mother , sisters , little brothers etc .
Men have to meet the marriage expenses and after marriage expenses ( buying a house , buying a car , buying new household goods , gifts etc )
There is no necessity for women .
This is why men take 2 times more share of inheritance .
But everthing doesnt end here , another verse orders muslims to give people those who in need .
So you're a man and your financial situation is good enough , in this case you have no right to take 2 times more pieces of inheritance . You will give your share to the your sisters or other brothers those who in need .
You know what? A lot of women do want to work and do work.
In the western world the emancipation of women has progressed centuries ahead of that in the Islamic world, to the point where a woman can lead a state and dictate international affairs on an equal footing to her male counterparts.
Can you imagine a female leader of an Islamic state? What about a leading female cleric? Indeed, perhaps the most dominant section of western society that isn't emancipated are the religious entities that still dominate some sections of society (eg Catholic Church).
I think your comment that women "don't have to work" is actually an insult to those who do and do it bloody well, like my fiancé, who is developing antibioitics that will hopefully one day save millions of lives.
If she were born in an Islamic state, she would have and will achieve nothing her entire life except to spawn more humans and obey her husband.
