If life in jail is cheaper, why allow the death penalty? At least less taxes would be paid.
Well for one I don't think the death penalty should be as expensive as it is. Second I just don't think life imprisonment is the right thing to do with the worst people in the world. Even if you give them life, chances are they'd have to be kept separate so the inmates don't kill them like they did with Jeffrey Dahmer. If you're not planning to let them out, and keeping them in mostly solitary confinement so they don't get killed or kill themselves, you might as well kill them.
