Well, for many years, the godly were burning the un-godly at the stake. Fortunately, in modern times, the godly have settled down to mostly snide bickering and petty character assassination. So, when you walk around telling people they're evil beings that deserve eternal damnation, they tend to start to become sensitive to the things you say.
Of course, in your case, understanding all of this would require a certain level of self-reflection.
