It's even more absurd than that. Given the christian believe of god being omniscient it was only the shadow of a choice, since god knew beforehand that placing that tree would result in them eating from it. So, following that logic, god wanted menkind to suffer and only put on a charade to suit his own perverted needs.

If you kept going with your chain of thought, you would have seen the broader picture that included the rest of Humanity. Christ's sacrifice, offering of attonement and salvation, and billions if not trillions of indivisuals who want to serve Him.
