As secular humanism is a stance on ethics/morality, -which places a high value on this life..... it would be difficult to reach any other conclusion.

There have to be ethical/moral actors in the world for it to mean anything, and for there to be moral actors - they need an environment to exist -in-, eh? If humans are capable of being ethical/moral actors (specifically in the case of sec humanism -without an edict from the divine) then there's simply no way to avoid that conclusion unless our actions in and effect upon our environment are non-consequential or unambiguosly beneficial in each and every case. What do you think? Are there ethical and moral assessments to make when considering this subject? If you had to make a short list, would you place those considerations above or below the correct PO box for the divine?

Perhaps, is the reltive merit of a given conservation proposal..that you feel can be arbitrary or lacking justification (and in many cases I would agree)? I'm prioritizing ecological conservation when I decide not to edge my driveway with used motor oil....that's all that has to mean, after all.
(and let me just say...that's a hell of a concession....because that shit works like a charm! - for specifity, I;m prioritizing it over my own convenience but also efficacy...and if you knew me well, you'd know that takes a damned strong argument, I'm not going to take any "just because"-s.)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
