Actually the serpent told the truth while God is the one who lied. God said if they ate the fruit they'd die, and they did... after 900 more years.
And here come the Christians to claim that before they ate from the fruit there was no death. If that were true, then why did God say in Gen. 2:17 "in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die?" Sounds pretty clear that God was lying when he told Adam that he would die the day he ate from the tree of knowledge.
