Did I?? I thought I paraphrased myself because I wasn't sure how to explain it...and attempted to elaborate a bit more on the subject...if you mean 'went round' in that way, maybe...

But - I don't believe I used Circular LOGIC - if that's what you mean??

RE: Challenge
Circular logic I would never accuse you of that I just meant that you made your statement several times in your post in a different manner each time but it basically said the same thing.Get it? Got it? Good ! Lol

Yeah, like I said paraphrasing myself. I do that sometimes - although I try to delete as many paraphrasings as possible - but yeah, it's because I do that when I'm having difficulty explaining something...but it's still better than not explaining it at all.

RE: Challenge
@ chatpilot I'm more discussing it than claiming concrete position, as you seem to be doing. I asked my wife what she though before discussing this, and she thinks hope is emotion.

Yeah it's different to talk about the Sun... it's just an analogy. Hope in the context of this sentence IS positive.

BTW chatpilot which translations of the Bible did you read? KJV I presume? Or NIV? Living Bible or Street Bible perhaps?

The NIV I'd assert to be the most accurate. KJV is a wondrous, beautifully written, poetic translation. Hardcore granted.

The NIV has this line as: "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

chatpilot Wrote:The bible defines faith in Hebrews 11:1
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Based on this definition faith itself is an emotion its actually hoping without proof.

Hupostasis, the word "substance" translated, means "that which underlies the apparent; that which is the basis of something, hence, assurance, guarantee and confidence" (Spiros Zodhiates, The Complete Word Study Dictionary: New Testament, p. 1426)

What about 'evidence of things not seen'? You seemed to have skipped that in your conclusion.

Literally from the Greek: "Now faith is the reality of things being hoped for, the proof of things not being seen."

If it were an emotional response to hope that God exists, but then faith is the reality of that hope. The proof of that hope.

From The Bible Gateway commentary: "Faith proves to the mind, the reality of things that cannot be seen by the bodily eye. "
