Step 1: Church collects tithes from it's members
Step 2: Church gives members small sums of money and instructs them to give them to whomever god "calls upon them" to bless.
Step 3: Profit. The members of the church are very proud that "The Church" is giving away cash (of course it is only their own money, and if the church is smart..only a fraction of the money tithed to them), The church is happy to see yet more members bring in their tithes after being persuaded to join by this random act of generosity.

Maybe that's not what they're up to at all, but what a wonderful little scheme.

Well, the numbers always would bear you out. You're never losing money, and you'd expect to collect those tithes again next week. If at any point you felt it wasn't worth it anymore it's on to the next scam, no losses incurred upon you at all (since your scamming with other peoples money in the first place). It's a sort of modified ponzi..lol....

I love con games btw, their history and origins and the principles they work on..fascinating. I respect a well devised con immensely, even if I might consider castrating the operator, lol.

Negative on steps 1-3. The church never gives up it's gold (the golden rule applies at all times) It is consider alms, out of pocket cost. Dont'
forget, when you start your own, you will be tax exempt also.

Seven deadly sins are of Catholic origin, just another way to control the masses.
wrath- don't rage against the machine
greed-give it all to the church
sloth-keep working for the church
pride-dummy them down
lust-I don't have the faintest idea
envy-want for nothing
gluttony-more food for the priests

Those sins all came from older traditions and sometimes, quite possibly, practical concerns. I agree that the overall framework built around those sins was very often leveraged in favor of the clergy. Another example of a good con right there. Leveraging something already well received or considered to be valuable or truthful allows you a more convenient "in" on your target.

I thanked her. She got back into her car and drove off.

Now, Christians would say she did it because of God, but she really did it out of the kindness of her heart.

What do you say about this kind of behavior?

Well she didn't do it because of god, because god is made up, and she didn't do it out of the kindness of her heart either, because she thought god told her to do it.

I say her behaviour was delusional. A delusion caused her to randomly give a stranger money.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

I say 'a fool and her money are soon parted' accept the gift with a smile and buy a gift for Ash with the $20.

I randomly give strangers money when I've a lot of it. I don't feel delusional at all.
