When you understand your reasons for disbelieving in the claims of Hindus, you may perhaps be closer to understanding why many of us don't believe your claims either.

He'll never understand, because his thought process runs like this: "I don't believe in [insert any other religion], because I believe in [my religion]". It's very simple, as long as you are a simpleton.

"I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

I would say that certainly applies here.
You really believe in a man who has helped to save the world twice, with the power to change his physical appearance? An alien who travels though time and space--in a police box?!? [Image: TARDIS.gif]

RE: Positive claims and atheists
I get so fucking sick of this argument/debate. I do not believe that gods exist, because I have never encountered a reason to. Add to that the few places that science has left gods to hide in, and I can easily proclaim that I believe that gods do not exist.

I said "believe" and that carries no burden of proof. If I claimed to know that no gods exist, I could be expected to have some convincing evidence, but all I said is that I "believe" they do not.

Same goes for theists. You can believe whatever you choose and not be required to prove it, but don't go thinking I have to believe it too. Try to tell me that your god does, indeed, exist... and you got some provin' to do.

That something appears self-evident to you says nothing about it's status in reality. Claims of self-evidence are only convincing to those who also find said claims self-evident, unsurprisingly.

Which, incidentally, still leaves the burden of proof firmly on your shoulders.

You don't think it is self-evident that Santa does not exist? if not, what evidence do you base your belief on that there is no Santa?

It is precisely as self-evident as your gawd not existing is. No difference at all.
