You don't seem the type to have gun magazines on hand.  But if you're ever at the store, pick one up.  A solid 80% of the people of any random magazine are rockin mustaches.  There's a definite "look", and I find it odd.  I personally don't have the cliched gun nut look, so most are surprised to learn my position.

Tragic, and ultimately preventable.  Again, criminal negligence on the grandfather's part.  Ownership isn't the problem, fucktards like that are.

Why was it loaded?  Why wasn't it physically secured?  Why wasn't the gun itself disabled?

There are many ways this could have been prevented, even ones that allow easy access.  

This is my first thought for somebody who has children in the household:

And lacking these a simple trigger lock:
