I'm not trying to be insensitive; loosing family is horrible.   But we are talking about ~60 relatives.  Is that correct?

Yep, spread out over six states and 18 years. One of the cousins decided to do a family history. She quit when she got more information than she was comfortable with.

17,102 American children and teens are shot in murders, assaults, suicides & suicide attempts, unintentional shootings, or by police intervention.

2,737 kids die from gun violence:

1,606 murdered
958 die from suicide
110 killed unintentionally
26 killed by legal intervention
36 die but intent was unknown

In a year, 110 accidental deaths in the US, and that's going up to age 19 - preteens would be lower (I haven't found stats specifically for preteens).

That's four a year spread out over six states, not a drop in the bucket in the grand total of firearm deaths each year. BTW, I currently have over 1,100 people who qualify for our family reunions. Them hillbillies breed like rabbits.

The NRA and a group called “Guns Save Life” are threatening a lawsuit to overturn the ban. This is a stupid threat, since the issue of assault weapons bans has been thoroughly litigated:

If a family has 4 of those 70 per year, that means it has 5.7% of such deaths.

The US has roughly 50 million preteens.

5.7% of 50 million is 2,850,000. That's how many preteens need to be in his family if his family is representative of the country as a whole.

So, I think his figures are bullshit.
