An Iowa law allowing the legally or completely blind to acquire permits to carry guns in public has stirred up debate as to whether or not the visually impaired should have "full access" to firearms.

They're not allowed to drive (for obvious reasons) but they're allowed to carry firearms in public. Something's seriously wrong here.

As the laws likely stand, there are probably no provisions to limit law abiding citizens with disabilities from receiving a permit. Honestly, the fight to stop it is probably futile. Common sense seems to dictate it's silly, but when did lack of senses ever stop somebody? Never?

I'm cool with the ownership, btw...permits to carry, though? Screw that.

As D/T points out, we don't let blind people drive. I sympathize with them but I don't want them on any road I'm on.

I agree...really, I do. As I have a visual impairment, I know too well what's at stake. Having a little common sense myself, I acknowledge my limitations, not insist on an equality I can't even enjoy.

The problem here i think is that driving is a privilege, not a right guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment. Every disability advocacy group in America, not to mention those artards with the NRA, would come down hard on denying a lawful citizen his rights, no matter how useless that right would be. I tend to empathize with their position. Amend the amendment, and/or limit CCW 'privileges'...the latter maybe the only possibility.

Carry permits are issued by state law. They have nothing to do with the constitution....which does not say that criminals or the insane can't have guns either. *

Right. I'm all for state's limiting CCW's for the blind. Base ownership of guns is a separate issue. I kinda blended both because well, they get lumped together already.
