All Hail the Second Amendment
RE: All Hail the Second Amendment
Okay, that's a fair counter offer. Now how about we seal the deal by agreeing to give all police officers full access to automatic weapons?

Other than feeling like you have a fighting chance against a bad guy with illegal weapons, what other rationale is there for you to have one? The same defend-yourself logic gives you access to all the other banned weapons too. Why not clamp down on everything we don't want used against us?

The part that strikes me as crazy is the rationalization that ordinary Joes need state of the art weaponry so they can stand up to the police and military when it comes time to overthrow the government. Can we at least agree that this gross misinterpretation of the second amendment needs to go?

agree. Cops should have fully auto. They do for the most part now. I'm confused on what you're asking for the next part. Should I have illegal weapons? Well no I shouldn't. What makes explosive weapons justifiablly legal? Excessive force and iimpractical use. Don't get me wrong blowing up stuff with the guys may be fun but not much you can do with a rocket launcher, grenade, landmine, etc but reek chaos. Why not just clamp down on everything against us? Well it sounds good. except the outlaws and that shelter-logic leads to cutting liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I don't need for example my bow. I have a perfectly good grocery store down the road. A bow can be used against me. Used silently i might add. But is that reasonable cause for the sacrifice? Well to me, no. I love shooting my bow. I love to alter it and hunt. I just love looking at the damn thing. I love what it means to me and i love its ability to help me escape. Assualt rifle as well. I love light a target up and the feel of the kick. I love the rush. I love shooting a large clip and not having a pain in my ass annoying law inhibiting my enjoyment with the weapon. As far as your other comment about ordinary joes, fine it is your right to think it and express it.iI don't know what you really expect me to say to that. And no I don't think the 2nd amendment should be changed. We have set limits and we can work that out (like explosive weapons, mags, unstable weapons, silencers, type of rounds). We can bear arms and have discretion as to what is acceptable.

I'm more than happy to sign off on your possession and use of a bow, knife and sling shot. I'll live with the risk of someone going psycho with one of those in their hand. No problem. I also share the appreciation of using a weapon to kill an animal to eat. There is real honesty and integrity in that, at least for we omnivores.

Okay, here is where I draw the line. I'm not willing to risk you or any of the rest of the population suffering a psychotic break or emotional meltdown with one of these things in your hand. Forget it.

In a civil society there is no reason not to delegate the weapon wielding to a specially trained few. Whether or not some people would feel more secure to have one of these in their own hands, I think your desire for a feeling of safety doesn't trump the rest of ours'.

Not sure what you're saying here. Do you think the 2nd amendment as it stands exists for the sake of providing an avenue for over throwing the government. Because that would just be crazy.

Obviously, we need more guns to protect us from all those guns already out there.

It's a vicious circle. Next thing you know everyone will be needing their own personal thermonuclear device to protect themselves from other people with thermonuclear devices.

Assuming you are being sarcastic, what tools do you think a citizen should use to protect himself from the armed miscreant?

I have a convicted felon (not for drug charges), on parole, who has admitted that he is still a drug addict, move in next door with his wife's parents (disability cons themselves). He has already scared the living daylights out of their neighbor on the other side, telling the elderly widow that he was in her house at 2am because he saw a burgler open her door and he was just inside to make sure he was gone and that she was "ok." She's not to bright and she bought his story. I won't.

So when he "breaks in" in the near future, what tool should I grab to protect my wife and three daughters?

The phone. Or you could try outsmarting him pre-emptively with....locks.

(Did he wave a gun around at your neighbor? Do you really think waving one yourself, particularly if he doesn't, is a positive sign? Who is really the one to fear here?)
