People who are crazy are generally prohibited from possessing firearms (even if they are "law-abiding"). This is a law on the books, it would surprise the hell out of me if Cali was an exception to this- probably ought to enforce it.

I thought mentally-ill people were just restricted (in some areas) from purchasing firearms, but if they already own a gun before they become suicidal etc, this law means it can be taken away by their family? Just my impressions.

So you get into the whole issue of who makes those decisions. Before shooters start shooting you would have to get a judge to classify them as mentally unstable.
