How do you debated a Muslim?

If he's that inclined to shut you out before you even have evidence to debate with, imagine what he'll be like when you do. I think it's a waste of time to try and discuss the issue with someone who seems so terrified of hearing a contrary point-of-view.

I think it's a bad idea to try and debate a religion without a good grasp of its teachings. It won't take long for him to rebut your claims with information that you aren't aware of, and that will simply reinforce his belief and give him the impression that you're less interested in teaching him anything and only interested in 'proving him wrong.'

If you're willing to invest the time, learn from him. Ask him about his beliefs, and what they're based on. Discuss those beliefs with him in a genuine fashion. You'll learn about his belief system, and in discussing it he may begin to find holes in his own logic. Worst that can come of it is that you have a better understanding of Islamic beliefs.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

OK, this Islamophobia is getting ridiculous. It's so ethnocentric. Whether or not you agree with Islam, you have to live in a world with people who do. It doesn't help anyone for you to just hate Islam and Muslims. It would be better if you tried to find common ground, or at least be tolerant of their existence. What's going on in the Middle East and the history there is too complicated for most westerners to understand. Your opinions on Islam are ignorant ones. Mine is too.

All I know about Islam is that there are good and bad Muslims. I know a lot of good ones. I even know feminist Muslims. I consider myself a feminist as well. You shouldn't judge Islam on its attitudes towards women because they're working with a completely different framework than we are. It's going to take a lot longer to make progress in the Middle East, and blind hatred doesn't help.

Do you have any friends in immigration? Maybe you can get him deported.

That's what I would do. Or at least, that's what I would do if I were TGAC....

How do you debate a Muslim? No, how do you debate theists in general. That is how you need to look at it, because all of them postulate a non material pet deity.

But some of the arguments you can use.

"Circular reasoning"=using your holy book to prove your holy book. They all do that.
"Argument from popularity/tradition". They all do that too. If popularity or tradition made something true then the sun is a god because the Egyptians believed it for 3,000 years.
"Science says=holy book quote here". Again they all do that.

The more important question than "what" they believe is "why" they believe it. The real reason they believe is because it is a comforting placebo and it "feels right".

And remember just because one person wont debate you, doesn't mean others wont.

Agreed. It shouldn't be islamaphobia. But when you see the footage of the murder, destruction and general misery of the peple living under islamic theocracies just do get rather frightened that a similar thing could happen in your own country.

Maybe the term religiphobia might suit better?

Religion free world = tyrany free world

Atheists have never committed atrocities and never would

Is this what you are telling me KichigaiNeko

Seriously - is that your level?

Is this really something you believe??!

Oh Sorry - I just found out an article saying that Stalin's horrific abuses in the name if atheism were actually due to an abusive religious upbringing.

Had his parents been atheist he would have automatically been a lovely chap... so basically all evil and abuse only ever comes from religion then - is that what you are telling me?

RE: How do you debated a Muslim?
You can talk to him about about Muhammed marrying a 9 year old girl called Aesha.

Here are texts from Hadiths that shows the marriage and that Aesha was still playing dolls at times of marriage.

Playing Dolls
Sahih Bukhari Volume 8, Bk. 73, No. 151
I used to play with the dolls in the presence of the Prophet, and my girlfriends also used to play with me. When Allah's Apostle used to enter home they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me.

'A'isha reported that Allah's Apostle married her when she was six years old, and he was taken to his house as a bride when she was nine, and her dolls were with her; and when he (the Holy Prophet) died she was eighteen years old. (Sahih Muslim, Book 008, Number 3311)

'A'isha reported that she used to PLAY WITH DOLLS in the presence of Allah's Messenger and when her playmates came to her they left (the house) because they felt shy of Allah's Messenger whereas Allah's Messenger sent them to her. (Sahih Muslim, Book 031, Number 5981)

Proof of Marriage
Narrated Hisham's father: Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married 'Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed (sic – consummated) that marriage when she was nine years old.

Sahih Bukhari 5:58:236

Narrated 'Aisha: that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).

Sahih Bukhari 7:62:64

Narrated 'Aisha: that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old. Hisham said: I have been informed that 'Aisha remained with the Prophet for nine years (i.e. till his death)."

Sahih Bukhari 7:62:65

Narrated 'Ursa: The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with 'Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).

Sahih Bukhari 7:62:88

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) married me when I was seven or six. When we came to Medina, some women came. according to Bishr's version: Umm Ruman came to me when I was swinging. They took me, made me prepared and decorated me. I was then brought to the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him), and he took up cohabitation with me when I was nine. She halted me at the door, and I burst into laughter.

Abu Dawud 41:4915

`A´isha Bint Abu Bakr: Muhammad married her in the month of Shawwal, three years before the Migration, ten years after he claimed prophethood, according to the tradition of `A´isha herself. He had intercourse with her in the month of Shawwal, eight months after the Migration. She was the only virgin among Muhammad's wives.

Tabaqat Ibn Sa`d, 8:58; Ansab al-ashraf, 1:410.

Aisha said, "The Apostle of Allah married me when I was seven years old." (The narrator Sulaiman said: "Or six years."). "He had intercourse with me when I was 9 years old."

Abu Dawud 2:2116
