Kid Killed my MacBook

RE: Kid Killed my MacBook
Fortunately I did it during summer, that's when I'm richest (read= not quite so poor) Big Grin

But no, I couldn't possible be that kind of an asshole and not pay back when I had destroyed zir computer, used to write zir thesis on Undecided
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I've decided to interpret Ze and Zir as slurred speech. It becomes understandable to me.

We have a rule of no food or drinks near the computer, but obviously it wasn't well enforced :-(
I know I'm a little late to the game here F1, but if it doesn't work now you have nothing to lose by trying to clean it before buying a new one...

Similar to what poca said, it's hard to say from the information given. Sorry to hear about the loss. I've never owned or disassembled a macbook, so I have no idea if it's easy or hard. And unfortunately, unless you have the right diagnostic tools, or spare parts to test with, it's almost impossible to determine what the specific fault is. If disassembly is not too difficult, I'd likely pull it all apart, clean as much as I could with distilled water and/or other fluids. (Most fluids aren't conductive and leave negligible residue, so they're safe as long as you dry thoroughly afterwards.) Then I'd put the main board in distilled water and leave it for a week or so; then, flush it out with more water (probably tap water, to remove the gunk, followed by distilled water). The power supply is probably toast, but if you're following the procedure up to this point, and you've examined the board to make sure that there is no obviously visible damage, take the second-hand power supply you previously acquired (you did remember to acquire one like I didn't tell you, didn't you?), and hook up the minimum necessary components. Then, retreat behind the blast shield, and flick the switch. If it doesn't come to life, then I'd toss it, or sell it on eBay for parts.

lmfao, it's late and I opened up this thread because I read, "kid killed by MacBook"

Sorry about your MacBook, but boy am I relieved it didn't kill someone..
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

There are vids on YouTube for basic stuff. It sound's though like a motherboard replacement - which is a PITA, especially if you haven't done it before. Too many tricky little tabs and screws. I bet it's cost a fraction of the Mac Store quote to DIY though.

Don't feel bad, festive. I am the proud owner of an iPad with a screen that doesn't turn on and has a big crack in it, because I thought it was neat how well my two year-old could use it.
