Ah, but his personal atheism is about being for gender equality (=feminazis), because his personal way of viewing atheism is so much more superior to the platonic, zen-like atheism of dictionary atheists. Skepticism is only for certain stuff, not to be applied to the words of a woman.

I am annoyed when people talk of atheism as an "movement"

What movement? How is that movement structured? Who leads it? Do I have a say in it?

I am an individual who came to be an atheist out of personal expiriences and not because I wanted to join some group.

And everyone who claims to be a "leader" of this non existant "movement" can suck my dick.

For some reason more and more people are thinking it's a "movement" with an agenda. I have friends who don't believe in god but would say they don't think they're atheists because they don't identify with atheists. But by definition, they are atheists. And when I say I'm an atheist, people think I mean more than I do.

I don't know what to make of this. But all the buildup before the actual quote of what the girl said makes me think this entire thing is insincere and purposely sensationalizing the situation. Red Celt, where did you get the part about them being drunk?

Now Koolay is your leader.

If you were unfortunate enough to scroll through any of the comments (after which I felt more violated than the alleged rape victim) you'll see PZ Myers explain that the coercion was alcohol.

Well that's just it. There's no such thing, but folk like Pz appear to wish that there was and, moreover, that they are viewed as such.

Hitch fully knew that people looked up to him and followed his literature, but you'd never catch him calling for an atheist jihad in the name of a non-existent ideology on 'other' atheists (and I say 'other' because atheism + employs the idea of 'if youre not with us you're against us' mentality).

Makes me wonder.. I got really drunk once and fucked a half-greek guy on my cousin's bathroom floor. I thought it was just fucking, he wanted more, and made me regret it. But did I say it was rape, just because I was drunk and couldn't read the signals? No. Really, what's the big deal if you have sex while drunk? Shit happens when you party naked.

I just skimmed them and I do feel violated.

By both sides of the argument.

@red Celt, thanks, found it. This dude is a scumbag. How can you throw a word like rape around like that? Unless he force-fed her alcohol, it wasn't rape, it was bad judgement.

@Fidel_Castronaut, agreed.

This is The Atheism+ Block Bot list (as featured so appallingly on BBC's Newsnight this week).

I'm in there. Only level 3, though. Must try harder.

Apparently, to get your name off the list, you need to make an appeal in the Atheism+ forum... which pre-blocks suspected non-A-plussers. So, good luck with that.

Though to be fair, there have been too many incidents of people, who have gotten too intoxicated and then have been taken advantage of. But that someone would put those two in the same category is an abomination.

Well, yes. Given how it was reported (assuming that they had both been drinking) Shermer could have just as equally accused the woman of rape. Several degrees of insanity involved, here.
