Former believers, did you feel religion scammed you?
I feel embarrassed that I used to be a christian. I also I feel jealous for those that were never in a faith. Is there anyone else that feels this way?
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
To the last syllable of recorded time;
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,

In short, yes.

Not necessarily jealous of those who were never religious but that's because I think that everything that happened in the past made me who I am today. And I'm very happy with who I am today. Plenty of bad things happened, religion wasn't the worst component of my life.

I often wish I'd never been raised with religion, but on the other hand it gave me an insight to how religious people think.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

I was too young to care when I was taken from my Christian church (around age 10). But I do remember always being very bored by it. It seemed like such a sterile experience.

Religion never really got much out of me in a tangible sense. It wasted my time more than anything else. I took whatever Christian nonsense I picked up as a kid for granted, but church services and Sunday school bored me for the most part. I only took the shit seriously in my early 20s.

Born without religion, never gave it much thought. By the time it came knocking on my door I was too old for it to take root and it quickly withered and died.

No. My mother, for all her fundamentalist batshittery, never really forced it on me. (Other than regular church services til I was ten...and UCC at that...phew!) It's all background noise now. I lost nothing but Lone Ranger reruns Sunday mornings on PBS. The whole 'wrestling with god' bit wasn't a waste either...since I won. Smile

Religion took about 21 years of my life. I can't get those back. So I'm going to fight back.
