Thanks and I just did give him a pat. He is in his usual place on the couch beside me.

I don't know what to say. I'm literally in tears as I write this. I'm so sorry, whateverist. They bring us so much joy, and in the end, tears.

Thanks, Cthulhu. Sorry to put you through this old buddy. Sounds like you know the drill. Of course, that they live so much less time than we do is either more evidence of imperfect design or else of a malevolent creator. Either that or we just have to give up the idea of a creator altogether.

I took him to the big dog park on the bay today. I was getting hugs from women I'd never met and one said she loved me. I'm thinking of suggesting to EvidencevsFaith that he borrow someone's old dog and a wheelbarrow and I can almost guarantee he'd get laid.

Here are a couple of photos from our morning jaunt to Pt. Isabelle dog park.

Yeah, whateverist, I know the drill all too well. My Norweigan Elghund is going to go soon I am sure. She's 15 but still doing OK despite being nearly deaf and blind.

Looks like you're making Fletcher's last bit of time comfortable and pleasant. I'm sure he appreciates it.

It is just tricky to time the end so that he and I get all the good days we can without him dying freaked out and in distress. So far he just isn't eating but he is drinking some water. Today at the dog park I put some bacon and egg under his lip but he just dropped it. He can't quite stand on his own anymore. Frankly what he has now probably doesn't count as a 'good day' any longer. I'm thinking we probably will keep that Tuesday afternoon appointment.

It is both the cancer in his lung and his bad heart that are stopping him. We won't be doing any surgery on this old dog though. That doesn't seem like a good end to me.

Yeah. When a dog won't eat bacon it's time to say goodbye.

Actually this would be a good test for my kids to use with me one day. When daddy won't eat some bacon you offer him just put the old boy down.
Everything I needed to know about life I learned on Dagobah.
