I'm Hindu, and while there are creatures analogous to demons in the stories and texts associated with various of the orthodox Hindu traditions, I generally leave the speculation on such matters to theologians. I am responsible for my relationship to the goddess, and if such creatures exist, she hasn't seen fit to provide me with sufficient reason to believe in them. Since they are a part of the heritage, I enjoy the stories, and am open to the idea that these creatures as portrayed in the stories may illustrate literal or figurative, symbolic truths. However, I have not encountered any such creatures in my life and therefore choose to remain aloof with regard to belief in them. I like the stories, and suspect they reflect some aspect of deep truth, but just what that means in literal terms, I'm unsure.

He/she might not be lying. Perhaps this person really does believe that what was seen was a possessed person. I was a theist and watched my mother "pray the demons away" from people often. These people would do weird shit, like crawl around and quiver, mop the floor on their bellies like snakes, hiss, talk in a different voice, change personalities, etc. Being a theist that was huge on faith, the only explanation was: demons. Now I feel awful that these people weren't sent to psychiatrists or hospitals. It's sad. Even my mother, now recovered from religion, feels awful about it. We were blind to reality by faith. Typical "I don't know, therefore, demons".

Then again, I might be a demon, according to the bible institute that I went to. Boo!
